The Villa of Poggio Imperiale UNESCO World Heritage Site
In 2013 the Poggio Imperiale villa was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of the serial site “De Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany”.
Together with 13 other villas and gardens, Poggio Imperiale is a unique example of ingenuity, art, architecture and more. The entire complex of villas and gardens, in addition to testifying to the management and presence in Tuscany of the de Medici family over a period spanning three centuries of history, bears witness to the events related to the political rule of the time by a dynasty that dominated Tuscany and left a mark that is destined to endure into the future.
On Sunday, 5 October 2014, we received a visit from the UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova who paid tribute to Villa del Poggio, a World Heritage Site
Ms. Bokova greatly appreciated the guided tour conducted by our students and the fact that every Sunday the Villa is opened to the public, so as to make it increasingly known and enjoyed by the people of Florence as well as by tourists.
